Have you ever felt like you were “in love” but weren’t really sure if it was true love? Love often gets confused for infatuation and that’s when mistakes are made. Think about it…have you ever known someone that regretted hooking up with someone else because they thought they were “in love”?
Infatuation is a short-lived passion or obsession that often makes you do foolish things to get what you want…even going as far as taking advantage of someone you’re infatuated with. Love is the complete opposite. Love wants the best for others and strengthens over time.
Take a match for example. Light the match and you get a flame. It sparks! It’s hot. And it’s kind of exciting. You might even wonder what’s going to happen. Is it going to fizzle out? Is it going to burn me? Do I have the time to light the candle or is it going to burn out before I can get to it?
Infatuation is like that match. The anticipation, the unexpected, the excitement. If you’re not careful, it might burn you. But what happens if you light a candle with that match? The flame becomes steady. It lasts! It’s comforting and doesn’t burn you! Love is like the flame on a candle. If you truly love someone, you want the best for them and you shouldn’t have to constantly worry about your relationship burning you.
