Temptation

Alright, let’s get real… abstinence can be difficult at times. It’s not always easy to wait to have sex until you are married especially since you are constantly surrounded by sex. Let’s face it- sex is everywhere. It’s in songs, internet, movies, t.v., your friends are talking about it, and on and on, which might create a lot of temptation. If you are a guy, maybe it sneaks up on you when you see a cute girl walk by or, if you are a girl, maybe it shows up if you start kissing your boyfriend. Maybe you are struggling with what to do, but that doesn’t mean you can’t overcome temptation and it doesn’t mean that sex has to be part of your life. There are things that you can do to help ease the tension between you and temptation. Just remember the word TEMPT.

T – Talk. Talk to your boyfriend or girlfriend about your struggles and what you expect of each other. This might help you encourage and support one another.
E – Explain. Explain your reasons for wanting to stay abstinent. This will help you to remember your goals and give you a foundation for a solid relationship.
M – Marriage. (No this doesn’t mean get married right now!) Just remember that sexual activity is always the safest and healthiest when it is inside of a one person for life, faithful marriage.
P - Play. Have fun together without having sex! A relationship is about getting to know each other and you can’t do that very well if your lips are always together! Go on dates, go the zoo, go to the movies, think of creative ways to have fun and enjoy time together without getting physically intimate.
T- Tell. Tell your parents and friends about your commitment to abstinence. This will help them keep you accountable (which means they can make sure you stay on track.) It’s always a good thing to have help from those who care about you!

We hope that this helps! And remember you can ask us a question at any time!
