Heard of sexting?
Nearly everyone has a cell phone and most every teenager texts... A LOT. But have you heard of sexting? Sexting is sending nude or nearly nude pics of yourself or racy sexual language to another person’s cell. Now before you think, “What’s the big deal?”, consider this...
· 17% of people that have received a sext have forwarded it on to others!
· If you are considering sending a sext to a boyfriend or girlfriend...STOP! What would they do with that picture if you guys ever broke up? (Especially if you broke up with them!)
· In some cases people have been arrested for carrying nude pictures of a minor (anyone under the age of 18) on their cell phones and their names have been put on the sex offender list!
· Think about the gossip and your reputation first! Do you want to be remembered as “that guy/girl who sent those pictures” or do you want to be remembered for your talent, kindness, personality, etc.?
· Any picture could end up being seen by people you may not have thought about that could hurt your future... the college admissions office, the hiring office at the place you want to work for the summer or the internet.
Finally, if you find yourself on the receiving end of a sext – do NOT forward it on and then delete the picture. Also, ask the person who sent or forwarded it to stop. If it continues, tell a trusted adult and if all else fails, you may need to change your cell number. Sexting is serious and it’s not worth it! What do you think? Do you know instances of people who have been hurt sending, forwarding or having sexts on their phone?
