For Educators

Since 2006, ReL8 has been equipping youth with information and relationship skills they need to make educated, factual, and positive choices for their lives – especially in the area of sexual health. The truth is powerful – abstinence is the only 100% effective way to avoid the risks of sex outside of marriage.

Through partnerships with schools like yours, we have been able to reach more than 18,000 students in downstate Illinois. ReL8 believes in our youth and their ability to avoid risky behaviors – including sexual activity. Abstinence is not only realistic, but for most teens it is reality. As indicated by our Key Findings, together we are making a marked difference in the lives of our youth.

As an educator, you probably want to make sure that having a guest presenter in your classroom is worthwhile. ReL8 is committed to making our experience in your classroom positive and professional. ReL8 educators currently teach the A & M Partnership's Game Plan and Navigator curricula in grades 6-12. This part of the site is dedicated to giving you information about ReL8, our Class 8 presentations in schools and our curricula. Some important aspects of Class 8 to point out are:

• The curriculum meets all state and federal A-H guidelines for sex education
• The educator and materials for each student are FREE to schools
• All ReL8 educators have been certified as a Primary Level 1 Abstinence Educator by The National Abstinence Clearinghouse (www.abstinence.net)
• The program is flexible and can be implemented into any current health curriculum
• The curriculum is 8 chapters, requiring 8 class periods or at least 30 minutes per chapter to complete the program
• We offer Parent Power Workshops in conjunction with the classroom presentations

FUNDING UPDATE: Despite growing evidence on the effectiveness of abstinence education, the current Washington Administration has eliminated the Community Based Abstinence Education (CBAE) grant program leaving no funding for grantees, like ReL8, that were promised funds for multiple years beyond 2010 (our grant budget period was until 2012).  However, since ReL8 is an arm of Mosaic Pregnancy & Health Centers, we are committed to continuing ReL8 with private funding.  Of course, we will have to prioritize our goals in order to reach as many students as possible in the years to come.

We will continue to be mission-focused: influencing youth to pursue a lifestyle of saving sex for marriage and be guided by our core values: unwavering excellence, undeniable relevance and uncompromising integrity.  Our only change will be the addition of a new curriculum option, bringing more flexibility to the schools we serve. We are confident that our new plan for ReL8 will maintain or even exceed the quality of our programming.  It is our sincere hope and desire that you will continue to partner with us in this important task.

Here you will find information explaining our two curriculum options offered for the 2010-11 school year.  With fewer ReL8 educators (due to loss of grant funds), we anticipate our schedules filling quickly…so time is of the essence!

In the mean time, we would be happy to answer your questions, meet with you or other school staff and provide more informational packets.  Feel free to contact us at (618) 692-9888 or Info@myReL8.com.  Thank you for your interest in ReL8 and we hope to work with you and your students!
