Curriculum Overview

ReL8’s Class 8 presentations use Abstinence and Marriage Partnership's Game Plan and Navigator curriculums. Both curriculums are taught by ReL8 presenters who have been trained and received an abstinence certification through the National Abstinence Clearinghouse.

Both Game Plan (6-8th grade) and Navigator (9-12th grade) curriculums have 8 chapters and are presented for 8 days. Below is an overview for both curriculums:

Chapter 1
– Planning ahead and determining goals
– Goals for family, education, and career

– What is abstinence?

Chapter 2
– What is media?
– How does the media portray sexual activity?
– What do you watch and how often?
– Sex sells!
– Navigator curriculum-pornography and its dangers
– Protecting your mind

Chapter 3
– Dispel false perceptions of sex
– Myths about abstinence
– Possible consequences of sex before marriage
– How sex might get in the way of reaching goals and dreams
– How rules about sex can help our game plan
– Teen pregnancy

Chapter 4
– Understanding STDs
– How STDs are passed or contracted
– Define the 2 categories of STDs
– Possible long-term effects
– Most people infected with STDs don’t even know it
– Most teens that are sexually active have not been tested for STDs

Chapter 5
– Starting over 
– Steps to start new and make better choices for the future
– Navigator curriculum- Resisting risky behaviors
– Link between the risky behaviors
– Drug addiction
– Finding other outlets to turn to
– Game Plan curriculum- What can we do better for the future?
– Why might teens become sexually active in the first place?

Chapters 6, 7, 8
– Choose friends wisely

– Character takes time and practice to develop

– Cannot go too far physically or it will be harder to stop
